Weekend Potpourri
We spent the weekend being lazy and silly. It snowed a lot on Saturday so it gave us a good excuse to stay inside.
And of course the highlight of the weekend, Brett taught Owen to "pull his finger." Lovely. This is the new favorite activity in our house.

Krazy Kitties
My Aunt Lulu made the kitties the cutest thing!!! They each got a knit heart filled with catnip for Valentine's Day. They are so cute:) And the kitties went crazy. Especially Walli who LOVES this kind of things. I forgot to take a picture of them before the cats got to them so this one is a little destroyed but you still get the idea.
They say, thanks Great Aunt Lu!
I've also decided to start scanning Owen's artwork from school. Partly because I want to share it and partly because I think I'm going to have to stop saving everything he makes. By the time he's 18 we'll have to buy a storage unit to house it. Although I can't quite part with it yet;) The theme this month at school is food.

Visit from the Grandmas
My mom and Brett's mom came to visit this weekend. We saw Xanadu (the musical) on Saturday night while Brett babysat. I know, what a romantic Valentine's Day. But the show was great!

And of course Owen had a wonderful weekend because with Grandmas come new toys!!!! He got an Elmo Live, a wagon with blocks and a truck with blocks (from us.) It's so hard not to spoil someone so cute:)

Happy Heart's Day!
Owen's class had a "Heart's" party at school today. I'm really annoyed at how PC they are being by not calling it a Valentine's Day party. If it wasn't such a great place I'd reconsider sending my kid there for this fact alone. You'll remember that he had to have a "Fall Harvest" party versus a Halloween party as to not offend anyone. I'm sorry, but we live in the USA and we celebrate these holidays. If you don't like it, leave.
Now that I got that off my chest, here are some pictures of his new classroom. I really wish I could share the pics. and videos of his friends in his classroom but the daycare policy prohibits it without permission from the parents and I forgot to ask them while we were there.

Infomercial Junkie
I will be the first to admit it. I am an infomercial junkie. I don't know that it's necessarily that the infomercial themselves are super compelling, but I love gadgets and general crap that one doesn't really need. Which coincidentally happens to be the type of things they sell in infomercials. Recently we've bought the Twin Guard Draft Blocker and now...the Snuggie!!!! Yes, the blanket with arms that you see everywhere now.
It's great, because I do hate when you are trying to read or do something with your arms but you are cold and want your arms covered. Why couldn't I have designed this...

I'm lucky that I'm married to someone more prudent than me when it comes to money. Otherwise I'd probably go broke buying all of these products. I mean, who doesn't want a food dehydrator!
***********************************
Things Owen did this week:
-Said Owen, phone and tail (as he was trying to grab the cat's)
-Learned to fake sneeze
-Started spinning in circles till he gets dizzy and falls down (he thinks this is hilarious)
-Learned signs for "more" and "all done"
It's truly amazing how much he's learned in 2 weeks in the toddler room and how much he's picking up on things at home.

Why Medicating a Toddler is like Medicating a Cat
Thanks to Owen's new classroom move up to Toddler (which we are truly happy about,) he has a double ear infection and I have a sinus infection and have been sicker than I have in years. Yeah.
BUT, the best part about us being sick is antibiotics. I of course just swallow a pill and pray to God that I feel better soon. Owen on the other hand is NOT so happy about taking his medication.
I think I remember actually liking the flavoring of amoxicillan when I was a kid but since I'm allergic it's been years since I've taken it. For whatever reason, Owen HATES it. He cries every time we bring out the bottle now. Which is sad and frustrating because we have 5 days to go still. It's also becoming nearly impossible to get him to take it. Hence, the title of today's blog.

Why Medicating a Toddler is like Medicating a Cat
1) Both seem to grow extra appendages that prevent you from getting the medicine anywhere near their mouth
2) Both spit it out while you frantically try and push it back in their mouth (quite a feat with liquid)
3) Both gag repeatedly after you give it to them
4) Both look at you like they may be putting a long-term hex on you

Onwards and Upwards
Owen has officially moved up to the Toddler room at school. It is so cute, 10 little Owens in his classroom. I don't know how those teachers do it...
Here is their newsletter. If you click on the pictures they get bigger and you can actually read it. It's so cute!!!
This month's theme is food and they are learning things like pretending to be popcorn. They also welcome Owen to the classroom.

I'm sure there will be lots of funny stories to follow. Of course, with new kids comes new germs and incident reports. Last Tuesday Owen got bit again (didn't break the skin this time) and went home on Wednesday with a fever. Him and I have been sick since then. Yippee.

Visit and a Package
Baby Ava and Kristy came to visit us today. She's getting so big and is SO cute!!! We tried out the bumbo with her.

It's great to be able to share some of the stuff Owen has outgrown because it kills me how short he actually used most of the stuff he had (and how much stuff is already down in the basement being stored.)
And we received a package in the mail from Aunt Lu and Uncle Ed!!! It was such a nice treat in the middle of winter:) They used this cool wrapping paper.

There were all kinds of great things. For Brett and I there were some slippers. Brett's are in Steelers colors. So great! For the record, mine are NOT Arizona colors, I am a Steelers fan too!

They also sent me a beading calendar which is great because I love to bead and it shows a new design every day.

Owen got some great things too. Check out the adorable sock monkey and sock kitty Aunt Lu made. They are so neat!!
They also sent a sock monkey counting book which is great because Owen loves to watch us count right now.

And if that wasn't enough, she sent this cool hat made just for Owen.

And last, but certainly not least, they sent some tubes for Owen to bang together and cheer on the Steelers. For those of you that remember the Christmas post, these kinds of tubes are his favorite so needless to say this part of the gift was a big hit!!!!

Things Owen did this week:
-Tried walking backwards
-Is really trying to repeat everything. Said elephant, truck (says this one ALL the time now), Cat.
-Can point to your ear, belly, nose, eye, mouth
