Mutton Bustin'

So, in true Texas fashion we are very excited for Rodeo season. But even more exciting is that Owen has been chosen for Muttin' Bustin'!!!! For those of you not familiar (it's okay, we had to Google it too), kids that are 5 or 6 get chosen to ride a sheep in the rodeo. This may not sound like a big deal, but they are part of the REAL rodeo which is one of the biggest in the country.

First we had to practice. Clearly we don't own a sheep, so we found the next best thing. Daddy!!!!

Owen had to provide a headshot and bio so we took a few in our backyard. He is so handsome if I do say so myself.

Now it was time for the big deal. We even got all the gear to go with it:) (It was required for Owen.)

You don't realize how official this is until you get there. It's the real deal! We started off with Owen riding in the Grand Entry parade in a wagon. All these important people parade around at the beginning of the rodeo each night around the arena and all of the Muttin' Busters get their own wagon. A little bummed we didn't get to go!

After the Grand Entry parade we headed over to a special section for the kids. It was right behind the steers and sheep so Owen was pretty excited.

Shortly before the event, off they went to get ready. They had to get on Kevlar vests and helmets. Plus they got an official bib with their name on it! There was even a special faction of the cowboys dedicated to this event. Their logo vests were really beautiful.

Once they were ready to go it was time to ride! They even used real rodeo clowns.

Here is the official video. Owen comes in around around 4:35. I love it!!!

While his ride didn't last long, he had so much fun and so did we! Afterwards he received a trophy and belt buckle which is a prized possession for sure. And everyone said that he had the cutest wave:)

What an amazing experience. I hope we get to do the same thing with Maddi when she is old enough.

January Roundup

After so much excitement in December, we kind of laid low in January.

Brett started installing the cabinets in my craft room!!!!

Final pics to follow...

We also started working on Owen's room. It will have a space/Star Wars/pirate theme:)
First we surprised Owen with his new bed

We also installed a new cool space shuttle to orbit

Will share final pics when it is all complete. Which will be a few months...

We had fun at the Zoo lights. While it was "cold", it's nice to go to the zoo lights and not freeze to death like up north.

Maddi just being cute

For Christmas we got a record player so we could listen to all of my old story books on record. So much fun!

While January was a good month for us, we learned of several friends who are struggling through cancer (including my Mother-in-law) and a friend who lost her babies at 21 weeks pregnant. Please say prayers for all of them.
