Easter Fun

Before we get into Easter, I want to say congratulations to our good friends Jill and Jeff (Maddi's Godfather) who welcomed their baby boy, John, last Thursday. He is so cute and we are so happy for them!

Ok, now onto Easter weekend. We went to Michigan to celebrate the holiday. Friday night was all travel so nothing too exciting to report there.

On Saturday we went to the Detroit Science Center to see their dinosaur exhibit. Brett's mom as well as my sister/brother-in-law and niece and nephews joined us along with my mom. The boys love spending time with each other so we try to get them together whenever possible.

There was a special animatronic dinosaur exhibit which was pretty cool. You could make a lot of them moved. Owen thought it was pretty cool!

Saturday night we colored Easter eggs. So fun!

On Sunday we celebrated Easter morning in Michigan at my mom's house.

First stop was checking out our Easter eggs dyed the night before. It was the first thing Owen asked about in the morning.

They had fun with their Easter baskets from the Easter bunny and Owen had fun hunting for Easter eggs.

After church we went down to Toledo to hang out with the Geisslers and to celebrate Caden's 4th birthday.

On another note, Maddi learned to shake her head "yes." It's pretty funny to watch.

Snakes and Salami

This past weekend we went to Reptile Fest in Chicago. It was at the University of Chicago put on by the Herpetology Society and was really well done. There was tons of different critters to hold and look at at.
We started out by walking through a snake head tunnel.
At first Owen was a little overwhelmed but he eventually warmed up. He started out with a little chameleon that was so cute!
The had some large reptiles. (not their normal homes, just cases to look at)
There were lots of turtles which Owen loved of course.

Some crazy guy was there with a pool full of baby alligators. Fun to look at, glad I wasn't in the water...
Owen wanted to be part of the action too.
Owen enjoyed some skull bones of reptiles. Pretended one of them was a hat. Silly boy.
There were plenty of slithery snakes to touch and look at.
One of our favorite parts was the Iguana exhibit. They were SO friendly and cuddly. I was thinking how great it would be to have one of them around until one of the owners was talking about how he woke up one morning to his iguana laying eggs all over him and his bed. Yuck.

The perfect day ended with me and Owen taking a picture with a 20-some foot boa constrictor. It was really heavy but really soft. I actually felt really bad for the poor thing because it just kept getting picked up and put down for pictures. Glad it didn't decide to snap while it was wrapped around my neck.

Until he decided it was too heavy.

On Sunday it was almost 90 degrees. After the long, cold winter we had it was so nice to have some nice weather for a change. Maddi enjoyed being able to look out the front door and watch all of the people and dogs walk by.

On Tuesday the kids had their spring gala at school. Owen's class performed a rousing rendition of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Owen played the salami. Or rather, he was slated to play the salami. He freaked out about all of the people there and pretty much just stood in the corner and cried. Oh well. What are you going to do? It was still pretty funny.

He'll probably be in therapy for the rest of his life...

Maddi's classroom had an infant social. She's the oldest one in the class but it was fun to hang out with the other babies and their parents!
