Lake Visit- Part 1

We are in New Jersey at the lake!!! One of the vacations we eagerly await to happen each summer.

Owen was so excited to get into all of the things a little boy can get into at a big outdoor place. Unfortunately the northeast is stuck in a BAD heat wave so we (the adults) aren't enjoying it quite as much as we usually do. Today is 100 and the house doesn't have air conditioning. But, that's what the lake is for I guess.

Saturday
We arrived Saturday evening with an uneventful trip (Yeah!) It's Maddi's 2nd trip already and Owen's 15th so they are both getting used to traveling.

Owen had to get in the water right away so Uncle Rich took him in to look for fishies by the dock.

Owen wanted to go boating too...

Sunday
Sunday was a big day! We had all kinds of things going on.
In the morning was land events. It's a fun tradition where there are different activities for kids up to 18. Owen had lots of fun participating. He was a little young last year and just cried. I think he was overwhelmed by all the kids. Not this year though!

Along with Uncle Rich

All that action created quite an appetite!
Owen was also really excited to show off his sister to everyone. It was really sweet.
This is what the lake is all about. Relaxing!!!!
After Land Events, lunch and a nap, we went down to the beach for some fun in the sun!

Maddi attracted quite a crowd.
In the evening the neighbors had a pig roast. I'll spare you pictures of the pig cooking on the spit, but let's just say we lucked out with a difficult conversation. Owen asked what they were doing to the pig. I told him "cooking it" which apparently sufficed and he moved on to something else.

Last but not least, we attended song service. It's a community gathering every Sunday night for some hymns, poems/prayers and announcements. Once a year they do "Boat" song service where it is done on the beach instead of inside the community house and you get to come in a boat. Brett, Owen and Kerri came in the boat this year. We opted for dry land with Miss Maddi.

Beautiful lake sunset after a busy, fun-filled day.
Monday
We got up bright and early and headed to the beach. Owen is loving it. We went in the morning and the afternoon.
Shady spots were a premium which is rare since most people usually want the sun! It's way too hot though to just sit and bake.
Owen and Uncle Rich hunting for crayfish
For dinner we had our annual Chicken Parm night where Dale cooks her famous chicken parm for Brett who LOVES it! Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures but I did get this cute one of Marg and Maddi.
Tuesday
We ran errands and then Maddi and I spent the day in the bedroom (coolest part of the house) with fans trying to escape the heat.

Brett and Owen went to the beach and had so much fun we have no pictures but I can assure you a great time was had by all.

We'll be back with more posts soon!

Fun Packed Weekend

This past weekend was jam packed with lots of fun.

Friday
Owen had a Camp out party at his school. Thanks to Lois (Alex's mom) for sending me pictures since I forgot my camera! (Happens more now that there are 2...)
Friday night I went to a bridal shower for an old co-worker. It's been awhile since I've been to a wedding shower so it was fun to see the new games/ideas people had. One of them was making a wedding dress with a partner out of toilet paper. It was fun:)
Lisa opening presents
Afterward they were going out for the bachelorette party. I declined this portion of the evening since it was already late (ok, it was 9:45) and late nights/drinking heavily don't really go with being a new mom. But they looked like they were going to have lots of fun!

Saturday
Saturday morning the boys got their hair cut. Owen did pretty well despite the fact that the battery for the DVD player died right as it was time to cut his hair. Ugh.

After that I went to a baby shower for our friend Jill. She is having a little girl in September and we can't wait!!

After the shower we went to Jeff and Jill's house (different Jill than above) for their neighborhood block party. It was so much fun and their was lots to do for the kids.

Bounce House

Sunday
On Sunday it rained all morning (unfortunately for Brett who was trying to go play golf) and then got ridiculously hot. We managed to get in some yard work which desperately needed to happen but man, was it steamy. Felt like Houston again.

In the afternoon we went over to our church carnival that was happening literally 1/2 a block from our house. It was fun with rides for the kids and food.
Car ride (note the bumper sticker on the car he chose!)

Merry Go Round
Another car ride that whips you around. We thought he'd be scared but he loved it. Apparently he's a little dare devil because he wanted to ride the roller coaster and the ferris wheel too.

Another Bounce House
On the way home we found a bug for Owen to put in his bug box courtesy of Gigi:)
Such a fun weekend! We can't wait for this weekend because we leave for the lake. Be on the lookout for all kinds of fun posts.

Before I leave you, here are some art projects from Owen. The first one cracks me up.

As I mentioned the other day, Maddi had a photo shoot for her announcement. Here are some additional shots to share with you.

Hilarious

Came across this post and had to share. The original can be found at Suburban Snapshots. There are some really funny additions located in the comments on their blog. Sadly, many of these are true:)

Why Having a Toddler is
Like Being at a Frat Party*

*That one frat party I've ever been to, having gone to a Very Serious Arts College.

10. There are half-full, brightly-colored plastic cups on the floor in every room. Three are in the bathtub.

9. There's always that one girl, bawling her eyes out in a corner.

8. It's best not to assume that the person closest to you has any control over their digestive function.

7. You sneak off to the bathroom knowing that as soon as you sit down, someone's going to start banging on the door.

6. Probably 80% of the stains on the furniture contain DNA.

5. You've got someone in your face at 3 a.m. looking for a drink.

4. There's definitely going to be a fight.

3. You're not sure whether anything you're doing is right, you just hope it won't get you arrested.

2. There are crumpled-up underpants everywhere.

1. You wake up wondering exactly how and when the person in bed with you got there.
