Hohoholiday Spirit- Part 1

I'm really feeling in the holiday spirit this weekend! All kinds of crafts and Christmas baking:)

Today we started making some Christmas ornaments. Tomorrow we will decorate them.

Then we made snow globes. It was a bit of a craft fail. Of the 6 we made, only 2 are really still good. Too much glitter, 1 ornament was too big to fit in the glass, 1 broke, 2 of the other ornaments didn't stay glued to the bottom. Both kids dumped glitter all over the place. I think we may be done with glitter projects for a little while...

Next we decorated some binoculars to watch for Santa. This was a big hit and quite successful after the snow globe crisis...

He also enjoyed playing "army" with them later. His pants were where he held his tools. I'm sure there will be some blackmail this will come in handy for later in life;)
And he had me tape it to his face. No clue why. And it didn't last long.

Brett was also busy working downstairs on a secret woodworking project. We'll show you all after the holiday since some people reading this blog will be receiving something special!

No pictures but we made Christmas Crack this evening. It's an m&m placed on top of a Hershey kiss melted on a butter snap pretzel. Yum!!!!! Cassie Jones turned me onto this addictive treat and it is my favorite thing at Christmas:)

Looking forward to another fun day tomorrow!

Big Week

This week was kind of a big week for us, which I don't really like. I like our weeks to be nice and easy. On Monday I had some small, outpatient ear surgery. It was really minor but I had trouble recovering from it all week.

On Tuesday Brett gave a seminar lecture on his research. I went and was so happy to see him talk and see how smart he is. Too bad I only understood about 5 minutes of the hour he talked... So proud of him!

Owen's school project this week was making a machine and then comparing the what the machine can do to what his body can do. He chose to make Lightening McQueen and had some really good facts! I wasn't sure how we were going to accomplish this one but I think we did pretty well:)

Looking forward to a fun, relaxing weekend.

Colons and Mosquitos and Butterflies, Oh My!

Now that I have you wondering what I'm talking about, I'll tell you!

This past weekend we went to the Peggy Notabart Nature Museum. It's a great little nature museum that we scored a season pass to for just $25 on Living Social. If you live in Chicago and have never been, you must go.

They usually have one special exhibit, and the current one is on parasites. Gross, but Brett thoroughly enjoyed it.

One of my favorite exhibits there is the butterfly house. It is beautiful and there are tons of butterflies.

There is also an area with small animals and insects. The turtles were the biggest hit!

Later in the day Maddi showed off her cuteness:)

Owen brought home a slew of artwork, some of which you've seen pictures of while hanging at school, and I just love it!!!! Little kid art just makes me smile.

Getting excited and ready for Christmas!!!!!

A Little Fun with Santa

We found this great site that lets you create videos from Santa for your child. It's pretty amazing! We made a nice one and a naughty one for Owen.
Tonight we watched the nice one because Owen has been a good boy. He was SO excited to get an email from Santa but took the video very seriously waiting to find out which list he was on. I almost felt bad because I could tell he was really nervous waiting to hear!

The kitties waiting for the verdict too...

I love that Owen gets just as excited about Christmas as I do:)

December Downtime

Well, from the lack of pictures it may seem like we don't have much going on, but we are really just loving the down time and simple play time we have together now that our summer travels ended and before the Christmas rush begins.

Owen enjoying his new advent calendar made by Papo and Nonna Barbara. THANK YOU!!! We all love it:)
Hope your month is off to the same great start.
