I've traumatized my child

So, a few weeks ago Owen insisted on repeatedly dumping sand from his sand table onto his head. Well, when it came to bath time, I couldn't rinse it out with just a cup. So, I took off the shower head and used it to really give him a good soak.

Well, he freaked out. Now he is terrified of the bath tub. It's really sad because before this he LOVED to get baths.

I don't know how to fix it, but it's been over a week and he's still terrified. Anyone out there know what to do???

I feel even more horrible because I too have a trauma from childhood. My parents used to have to pin me down to give me liquid cough medicine. I don't know how old I was, but I remember it vividly. The bottle was green with green fruit on it. Now I'm worried this is going to be Owen's traumatic story, although I have no idea how he could remember it but who knows.

Help!

On a lighter note, here is some recent artwork from Owen.

Trip to Columbus

This past weekend we went to Columbus and Cincinnati. Actually, we both went to Columbus on Friday night. But on Saturday I had a wedding to attend for a dear college friend in Columbus and so did Brett, but in Cincinnati. We were really disappointed that they fell on the same night but we made the best of it.

The ride from the airport was a little snug:)
Friday night we hung out at Kim and Jeff's. They have a little girl Julia that just turned 3 and is SO adorable. Maria and her little boy Anthony (just turned 2 in March) and Beth came over to visit. It is always so great just hanging out with old friends. Even if it's nothing exciting.

The weather was so nice and the kiddos wanted to play with the pool (which had really COLD water but they didn't care) and the water table.
They also enjoyed eating some yummy dinner together. And as a special treat they got to stay up a little past their bedtimes. Which made them very silly!!!
On Saturday we did a little shopping. At the local mall they had an outdoor water fountain for the kids to play in.
Of course, after all of the hype, neither kid actually got in the water. But Owen did enjoy playing with the beach balls.

Then it was time to go to the wedding. My friend Char was getting married to Tommy who is a great guy from what I can tell. Char and I went to college together and I'm so happy for her.

Another OU friend, Sarah, was one of the bridesmaids.
Isn't she a beautiful bride?!?!?!?
So sweet!Me and CharThe OU gang. From left to right: Kerri, Maria, me, Char, Nikki, Beth, Sarah, Kim and Betsy.
It was so much fun catching up with everyone and was a great wedding!

Owen stayed at Maria's house with Anthony and her parents watched the boys. It was so nice of them and I think a good time was had by all!

Something else really exciting happened this weekend but I can't talk about it yet:) Be on the lookout over the next few days!

Things Owen did this week:
-He seems to be getting over his dislike for not having people riding in his trucks. For some reason, he used to throw a fit when the driver was in a truck. He had to take it out. Very strange but we seem to be getting passed it.
-We are in full blown parrot mode. He repeats everything. He's moving on to 4 syllable words and stringing 3 words together. Crazy how fast he's developing.

NO NO NO!

I have no idea what happened to my sweet, innocent little boy. But over the past few days, he has begun to use the word "no" incessantly.

If I find the kid at daycare that taught him this, he better watch out!!!!

Or, I guess it could be us saying "no" to him for the last year or so and he's finally fighting back:)

Owen's School Newsletter for June

Owen is getting ready to move to the next level of classroom after this week, but here is what he'll be enjoying until he goes. Sometimes I think his moves are harder on me...I'm not ready for him to keep growing up.

I survived...and Happy Memorial Day!

Well, Brett was out of town last week for 5 nights, and I survived!!! Partly because of my Dad and Barbara coming to stay and help out for 3 of those nights. So thanks to them:)

I am such a baby when it comes to staying by myself. If everything had gone perfectly, I think I could have handled it. But, Owen got sick and that almost put me over the edge. Normally I don't freak out about illness, but the week prior Brett had a sinus infection and a kid in his class had PINK EYE, so I was a little on edge. Especially about the Pink Eye illness. It is one thing I DO NOT WANT TO GET! That and lice. Yuck. And since I usually get everything Owen does, I really didn't want him to get it.

Plus, we were headed to Philadelphia to visit my Aunt Jean and Uncle Rich and I didn't want him to be sick for the trip. Oh, and I had to get to the airport by myself originally so that was a little daunting. But, luckily my Dad's flight was an hour before mine so they helped me get everything checked in. Once that was done I knew I'd be fine because Owen is a great traveler and we've done that before.

Friday
Here is my Dad and Owen riding on the people mover together at the airport...not sure who enjoyed it more.
Brett was already in Philadelphia for a conference so him and my Uncle came to pick us up. We just hung out Friday afternoon/evening chatting and enjoying a yummy lasagna dinner that my Aunt made. They are both gourmet cooks so we knew we'd be eating great the whole time!!!

My Aunt Jean is my Dad's sister and my Uncle Rich is my Godfather. Two of the best people you will ever meet.

They have a big backyard which was so great for Owen to run around in. Of course, he just wanted to play in the rocks...
You can see their dog Austin in the background. Owen and him really liked each other but were both scared of each other. It was quite comical. And Owen said "Austin" about 5,000 times and continued to ask about him after we got home. Saturday
On Saturday we went to Longwood Gardens. I had not been there since I was a little girl and really wanted to take Owen.
They had a really cute outdoor kids area with a maze and an overlook around a tree. Owen thought the Queen Bee chair was really fun. I don't know what happened to my sweet little boy that used to pose for the camera, but he's gone... Now I'm lucky to just get him looking at me.
Nice.
I actually managed to get a really cute picture! This is just the beginning of the water craziness.

They also had a really great indoor children's area too. It was all kind of water features and Owen certainly had fun!!!

I wanted to get a really cute picture of the two of us, but I probably should have done it at the beginning because by this point Owen was soaked and didn't want to sit still. Unfortunately Brett was back at the house with a migraine so that is why he isn't in the picture.
That afternoon, Uncle Rich went and bought Owen a pool because he was so into the water. He really liked it!
Sunday
On Sunday, Owen wasn't feeling real great so we just hung out around the house. He discovered they had a fountain and couldn't get a enough of it. He also learned to say "fountain."He stopped for Uncle Rich to read him a story about a "pillar" as he likes to call them.

My cousin Richie brought over his kitten Chase. Him and Owen played with each other through the window.
And sat with each other inside. It was SOOOOO sweet. I wish our cats liked him this way.
As a side note, Owen isn't usually allowed the pacifier unless he's sleeping but he was feeling so terrible we let him have it.

Saturday and Sunday my Uncle cooked on his big green egg. It's combination smoker/grill and we had the yummiest chicken and ribs. So good.
We had an absolutely fabulous weekend. What a great way to kick off the summer.
