Cubs Game!

Last night we went to see the Cubs play the Astros. Both teams tried desperately to give the game away, but the Cubs ended up winning. It was pretty cold. I was not happy about that at all. But, it was great to see a game.
Can't wait for Friday, we leave for Florida!!!!! Bring on the heat.

Owen School Update

Owen had an End of Summer picnic at school today. It was during their lunch. So cute.

Addendum

An addendum to today's post:

Another thing Owen apparently pays attention to is the music on the radio. We know he likes certain songs off of his CDs, but last night on the way home the Black Eyed Peas song Boom Boom Pow came on the radio. Out of nowhere from the back seat during the chorus comes "Boom boom boom." It was pretty hilarious. Guess we need to be careful what we listen to moving forward!

Are we mean parents???

I found myself asking this question during breakfast as Owen was continuously giving directions to the cats such as "Get down. " As I mentioned before, he's beginning to use our own phrases against us and this is just the latest installment. It's pretty funny, but I wonder, are we overcorrecting the animals, him, etc. in an effort to make them better when in reality we are just being too controlling??? I definitely think we are on the stricter side but want to make sure we maintain a good balance.

I'm inclined to say we do because the good things he says outweigh the bad. He also told our kitty Penelope that she was a "Good helper" today so at least he picks that up as well. Parenting can really make you second guess yourself sometimes:)

In other notes, Owen got his first "bad kid" incident report yesterday. He intentionally hit another kid at daycare with a bowling pin square in the nose. He got in trouble and had to say he was sorry. The protective mother in me of course thinks that the kid probably did something to deserve it, but the good citizen in me realizes that it doesn't make it OK:)

Also, Brett told me that this morning when him and Owen were getting out of the car in our parking garage to go to daycare that Owen out of nowhere said "a mouse!" Brett looked and by the wall there was a giant rat. Which Owen in turned squealed with delight as it ran away (as he is excited by almost anything,) and Brett explained to him that it was a rat, which is a big mouse. Apparently the whole way to school and once they got there he kept saying "big mouse." Only a city kid... I'm sure we'll be hearing about it every time we go in the garage now for quite some time. Too funny!

I'm wishing this weather would go away. It feels like the middle of fall and I hate it. It reminds me that winter is not too far away:(

A little bit of this, a little bit of that

Life has been crazy in the week since we got back from vacation. Both at work and at home...

Owen is really funny right now (in between his tantrums anyhow.) He's getting really good and saying "thank you" and "you're welcome." But he says the two together and doesn't quite grasp the reciprocity that should be happening. At least he's using them though!

He also uses phrases that us and the teachers use which is really cute but could be REALLY bad if we slip up. His favorites are "I'll get it," "Good helper," "Careful," and "Kiss. Make it all better."

Recently they did a bunch of sand art at school. It's really kind of neat.
You may remember that a few weeks back I posted some inchies that I made for a craft swap I was part of. I got mine and they are really neat! So different. I love to see the creativity of others. The bottom set came all the way from Germany!
Other than that nothing much to say. We had a lot of fun this past weekend shopping at Ikea and Owen and I spent Saturday morning shopping with Kristy, her mom and baby Ava. It was a nice relaxing weekend.

Trip to Ocean City Part 3

Wednesday

We took advantage of the less than ideal beach weather and went shopping in Rehobeth, Delaware. It's a cute little beach town with great shopping. My mom and I never have a hard time finding something to buy and Owen of course came home with some goodies too.

For dinner we just relaxed and ate Chinese food. It was a great day!

Thursday

Another not so great beach day. But not to worry!!!! The place we stay is right down the street from some outlet stores so more shopping for us:) I got some clothes for Owen, Brett and I as well as some more charms for my Pandora's bracelet.

For dinner we went to a yummy restaurant around the corner called the Marlin Moon Grille. It's a bit fancier but Owen did great and the food was wonderful. It's nice to go out to an adult-type restaurant once in a while.

Friday

It was a BEAUTIFUL beach day today and we made the most of it since it's our last day. We were there from 10:30-3:15. I wasn't sure how Owen would do without a nap but he did great. And he had so much fun. He's sacked out right now for a long nap...

Owen had fun swimming in the ocean again today. He begged to go in and didn't even want me to hold him. Of course I hung on to his straps but it was good to see him taking an interest in the water. I'm hoping to get him into swim lessons this winter somewhere in the city.

I tried to get him to take a nap under the umbrella again but he was more interested in showing off for the group of girls behind us. Such a ham...

After awhile the tide made a wading pool which he found to be great fun.

And we even got to see the horseys as we were leaving the beach! It's been so hot all week this is the first we've seen them up close. For those of you not familiar with Assateague, it's a state park in MD and is the beach we go to where we currently stay. It's just a few miles from Ocean City proper. The state park is home to dozens of wild horses and it's so fun to see them just living in the wild and coming down to the beach to cool off.

Tonight we will just eat in and pack. It's time to go home tomorrow:( Why do vacations go by so fast?!?!?!?!? Thanks Mom for a great week!

Trip to Ocean City Part 2

Monday (continued)

We decided to head on down to the boardwalk for some good old fashioned fun. (And to check out all the crazies...)

There is a children's ride area. I wasn't sure that Owen was going to even entertain the idea of riding anything, but he actually loved it and wanted to go on everything!

We started with his first ride on a carousel. He chose the rooster all by himself. He thought it was absolutley wonderful.

Owen's love of life is definitely contagious. It always makes the people around him smile.

Then he tried out a fun ride driving a fire engine. There was another little girl on there that he really enjoyed too;)

And there was even a fun boat! I was a little worried on this ride since the seatbelt wasn't tight across his lap. But thankfully he didn't try to jump out mid-ride and actually had a lot of fun:)

Lastly, we all went on the Ferris Wheel. It's been years since I've been on this one (or any one for that matter) and it was lots of fun. It's still nerve-wracking when they are loading it since I hate being stuck at the top but once it was moving we watched a beautiful sunset. Owen seemed to enjoy it too. I think we have a little rider on our hands!

Tuesday

Today we decided just to hang out at the pool in the morning. It was still lots of fun and Owen really enjoyed splashing around.

Then it was time to take Brett to the airport:( Poor Daddy has to go home and work. But, Owen and I will be soaking up all of the fun until Saturday!

After dropping off Daddy, it was time to go to Wal-Mart so Gigi could spoil Owen;) She bought him a new blanket with Elmo on it, a Baby Einstein DVD and LOTS of cars. I thought his head was going to explode he was so excited.

TRUCKS!!!!!

Tonight we had my absolutely favorite meal (ever since I was really little), spaghetti with white clam sauce. YUM! Such a great day. Tomorrow we are going to go shopping which should be great too. I love vacation...
