June Round-up

The rest of June was a whirlwind of activity for us.

The weekend of June 24th I went on my annual trip to Stratford, Canada with my mom and mother-in-law. It was a blast and we saw three fabulous shows (Camelot, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Merry Wives of Windsor.)
Crossing back into the US
Unfortunately, right as I was getting on the plane to go to Detroit I received a phone call from Brett. Owen fell at school and was in the ER. This is of course not a piece of news that any parent wants to deliver, especially when the other is out of town.

It wasn't serious enough that I had to get off of the plane and cancel the trip thankfully, but it wasn't good. I am so impressed with how Brett handled everything though and am so lucky and thankful to have such a wonderful husband and father for our children.

Showing off the stitches

5 days later the stitches came out and it didn't look quite as bad as I expected it would, although it was a pretty good size gash.
Fast forward 24 hours and the cut re-opened. I freaked. It looked so awful. My poor baby!
There wasn't much that could be done so after talking to the doctor it was determined that we should just butterfly it and try to avoid any infection.
Too bad we are headed to the lake for a week and he wants Owen to avoid swimming. Right.

This week we also had an insane hail storm. I've never seen hail this size before and this wasn't even the biggest piece. It lasted for about 10 minutes too.
Luckily we didn't have any property damage but our poor plants got shredded. And right before the garden walk too!

Dead lilies
Shredded hastas
More of the tree came down

Let's hope our vacation to the lake let's us forget about this crazy month!

P.S. I found a few photos on Pat's camera that were so cute I had to add them here even though they are from awhile ago.

Happy Father's Day!

Owen and Maddi want to wish their Daddy, Godfather's and Grandfather's a very special Happy Father's Day!!!!
Each year we do a Father's Day card. First with Owen and this is the second one with both of them. It's a bit like herding cats but luckily we found a winner. Here are some of the outtakes from the shoot:)

Zoorific!

Since Brett was scheduled to be in Norway, I was able to plan some catch-up time with my friend Kristy and her daughter Ava.

Through an unfortunate set of events (too ridiculous to really get into but it involves an airline and cancelled flight so you can imagine) Brett was still around on Saturday during the day. So, we all piled into Kristy's new suburban beast and off we went to the zoo.

It was another beautiful day so it was so great to be outside.

We saw the piggies in the kids zoo.
And Owen sat in the tractor.
Owen was a climbing fool in the children's area.
Owen and Ava enjoyed riding the train of course.
The kids all had a blast together and so did the adults!

Perfect Park Picnic

This past weekend the kiddos and I had a fun outing on Sunday morning while Daddy spent some much deserved time on the golf course. It was finally a nice day out so everyone tried to spend as much time outdoors as possible.

We took the bus down to the Farmer's Market. It's only about 1 1/2 miles down the road, but the whole event of getting on the bus makes Owen so very excited.

After shopping and picking up a few things at the market, we headed into the park which the market is located in. Owen had fun running all around while Maddi really enjoyed the swings. She hasn't done much swinging since she was getting old enough to do it during the winter but she certainly ate it up now.
After playing on the playground we went over to the puppet show at the park, Magic Boat. Owen really got into it and even wandered into the middle of the crowd to get a better seat.
There was a little dance part of the end in which Owen participated. I took a really cute video but for some reason blogger isn't letting me load in any movies today so I'll have to try again another day.

After the show, we finished up the morning with a fun picnic in the park.
We had SO much fun. It was a really great morning.

Fun-filled Weekend

I guess the phrase "better late than never" applied to our weather this weekend. While Saturday was pretty hot, we had two pretty decent days by Chicago standards. And we took full advantage of it.

Both Saturday and Sunday were filled with gardening and other outside activities.

On Saturday we blew up the kiddie pool and got out the new sprinkler. Owen and Maddi had a blast.
Ready to swim

Fun with the new worm sprinkler. So cute!

On Sunday we met up with our good friends Andy, Jill and baby Lily for the Do Division street fest. Chicago is filled with street/neighborhood festivals in the summer and they are so much fun! Lots of bad, fried food that tastes so good, live music, vendors and activities for the kids. The girls enjoyed hanging out together and relaxing. The highlight of Owen's day was getting to make his own bouncy balls at one of the tents!
So much fun. So excited that summer is finally here!!!!!!!
